Cam Girl Cast and Director Reveal the Trust, Boundaries and Relentless Takes Behind Holly Randall and Stripchat Feature

CHICAGO — EMMReport brings together four perspectives from the making of Cam Girl, with stars Alana Rey, Sally Dinosaur and Codey Steele joining director Jeff John Hart to describe how trust, boundaries and performance shaped the Holly Randall and Stripchat production. Rey’s participation became central to the film after she initially hesitated over what the project would require. Once she made it clear that she didn’t do collaborations, Hart reworked the planned scene around a solo webcam performance. “A model tells you a boundary, and that’s it,” Hart says, while Rey recalls being told, “Do whatever you do on your show, whatever you feel comfortable with.” The story also took Rey back to the Colombian neighborhood where she grew up and began her early webcam shows, an experience she calls “a little bit therapeutic” and one that deepened her connection to the character and the film.
The production offered a different challenge for each performer. Dinosaur, a self-directed cam creator who had not planned a conventional move into studio features, describes Cam Girl as “a completely new thing for me” and recalls Hart repeatedly pushing for another take during the Cyprus shoot while also giving her space to preserve difficult emotional moments. Steele arrived as an established Hart collaborator after Hopeless and Broken Butterfly and says he was “on board from day one,” valuing a directing style that asks actors to reach an emotion without dictating every movement. Hart, in turn, praises Steele as an active collaborator who arrives prepared and can strengthen a scene from within the character, while describing Rey’s performance as essential to the film’s emotional foundation: “Every single day, this girl delivered a performance.” Together, the four accounts present Cam Girl not as a single shared experience, but as a production built through individual choices, demanding takes and the room each participant needed to make the work believable.
