The 2009 FAME Awards were handed out Saturday night at Erotica LA. The fan based awards were bigger than ever in their fourth year and offers a few surprises along with expected wins for stars like Jenna Haze, Belladonna and Digital Playground’s Pirates 2.
This year we did a little fun poll as a primary of sorts. Readers of this site voted for who they thought we should cast our ballots for. Non-binding of course and I’m sure most people voted the way they wanted, but it was fun to see how the readers here compared to the voters in the world-wide popularity contest. We did five categories and picked Jenna Haze as Favorite Female Star, Favorite Oral Star and Hottest body. One of those came true as she won Favorite Oral Star. Overall we got two right and three wrong. Tori Black was the overwhelming winner as Favorite New Starlet in our poll. She won the FAME Award as well. Next year we’ll start the fun polls early and maybe get a little eye candy going. Nothing says “vote for me” like a few boobie shots.
Here is a list of the winners with a little commentary.
Favorite Female Star: Tera Patrick: Three in a row for Tera. After Jenna Jameson won the first award, Tera has owned this category. Our voters chose Jenna Haze who has won pretty much every award from everyone in the past year. I honestly don’t know how Jenna Haze didn’t win this one. When is the last time Tera made a movie? I suppose it says a lot about just how popular Tera is. With Jenna, Stormy, Jesse Jane and Sasha Grey in the field I would have thought that a three-peat would be out of the question.
Favorite Male Star:
: As if the first award didn’t already tell us this, Evan’s win clearly shows that the FAME Awards appeal to a really soft-core, feature driven audience. Nothing wrong with that of course and Evan is a really good performer, a fine actor and a great guy. With guys like Lex and Everhard in the field one would think that a raincoater audience would have given a very different result. Favorite Rookie Starlet: Tori Black: After Stoya won everything for a while, Tori has clearly taken over as the hottest new girl on the market. She barely lost the RogReviews.com awards and now finally has her hardware. Hard to argue with her selection. Stoya was also very strong and Nikki Jayne is very hot, but this was Tori’s award. Congratulations to her. It couldn’t have happened to a prettier girl.
Favorite Oral Star: Jenna Haze: Jenna sucks….really well and everyone knows it. She didn’t take home the big award like she should have, but at least Jenna knows that people love her with a dick in her mouth. Sasha Grey got the role in Throat, but the FAME Awards fans picked Jenna’s BJ’s over a field that included such noted hose hounds as jessica drake, Eva Angelina and Gianna Michaels. Jenna is going to need a new trophy case to hold everything if she keeps this up.
Favorite Anal Star: Belladonna: Hard to argue here I suppose. I voted for Jenna Haze in this category as well. Not sure Bella took as much cock in her ass this year as Jenna, but she remains one of the most popular naughty girls in the industry.
Favorite Feature Movie: Pirates 2: Stagnetti’s Revenge (Digital Playground): Kind of a no brainer. This was the best feature of the year and certainly the most popular. The DP machine made sure that everyone in the world knows all about P2 and they also gave us a movie worth voting for.
Favorite Gonzo Movie: Lex the Impaler 3 (Jules Jordan Video) Great choice. I picked Weapons of Ass Destruction 6, but you can’t go wrong with this movie. (Another Jenna Haze movie by the way.) Jules gets a win here. It would be interesting to see how the Gonzo titles would fare head to head with the features in the FAME Awards. Bet the feature crowd outnumbers us by a longshot.
Favorite Breasts: Stormy Daniels: Have you ever seen them up close? Pretty tough to argue against Stormy’s awesome set. I voted Gianna Michaels because I think natural should score points, but Stormy has two of the best boobs in the industry. And since I’m guessing the audience is hugely stacked with cable and feature viewers, Stormy’s status as a huge contract star, mainstream crossover and popular director mean that a lot more voters have enjoyed her fantastic hooters than Gianna’s natural wonders. I think these two need to hook up in a bikini oil wrestling scene. I’ll referee.
Favorite Ass: Teagan Presley: Great choice here. She was my vote, narrowly beating out Alexis Texas and Sunny Lane. Once again we see that the raincoaters probably aren’t getting their votes out in a big enough block. Teagan has a great ass, no question, but with the popularity of “big ass” porn, one would expect Alexis or Jenny Hendrix to score really well. Congrats Teagan for another win and some well deserved love for that terrific tushy.
Hottest Body: Jesse Jane: I think she won this last year as well. Jesse is a sexual dynamo with a body built for pleasure. Jenna beat her out in the fan poll with Shyla Stylez also picking up a lot of support. Sadly I doubt if a lot of the FAME voters really know Shyla by name. They know Jesse though and she’s been using that spectacular body for years now. Another tough to argue with choice.
Favorite Director: Belladonna: Oddly enough with the feature crowd winning most of the awards, Bella comes away as best director. She’s done some great stuff in the last few years, but this one surprises me. Jules Jordan can beat everyone but Bella apparently. A lot of the best directors didn’t even make the finals and at least it was a hard core director instead of a feature guy (or girl.)It is nice to see a female director recognized by the fans. Bella has proven she is a star in front of and behind the camera.
Favorite Studio: Brazzers Another shock and a testament to the fact that the industry is moving towards a web-based model. Evil Angel, Jules Jordan Video, Elegant Angel, Vivid, Digital Playground all got beat out by Brazzers. I happen to love their stuff, but this really shows you where the fans’ heads are and where the industry is going.
Dirtiest Girl in Porn: Jenna Haze: Tough to argue this one. Jenna is a big star who does it all. I voted for Aurora Snow because I felt that Jenna would win a handful of other awards, but Jenna is the perfect gonzo girl. She’s got the fact, the body the attitude and is the perfect dirty fantasy fuck. Congratulations Jenna.
Favorite Underrated Star: Daisy Marie: Nice choice. I went with the fan poll and voted for Aurora Snow on this one. Daisy is great though. She has been around for a long time and still gets away with only being a semi-dirty girl. She’s pretty as hell and anyone who can make a career in this business the way she has is doing so because she connects with the fans. Classic definition of underrated. (Still think Gianna Michaels is THE underrated star in porn.)
Favorite Star Website: TeraPatrick.com: This I suppose was inevitable. If Tera is popular enough to take the top award from Jenna, Bree and other active superstars, then she should be able to win here as well. I haven’t really reviewed any of these sites so I can’t tell you who has the best web site. I don’t really think that was the vote though. It was another popularity contest and Tera won.
Congratulations to all of the winners and to FAME for running an ever-growing awards show. Next year I will be there and hopefully the vote totals just keep climbing.
