The Fashionistas to Have a Theatrical Film Cut

John Stagliano, director and editor of the 35mm film The Fashionistas, is currently working on a theatrical version of the film to put into limited release in art house movie theatres.

The new version of the film will have a running length of approximately 2 hours, and will include the majority of S/M from the full adult film that had a running time of 4 and a half hours. However, Stagliano will be cutting out about 80% of the hardcore sex that was in the original version.

When asked what the motivation was for the theatrical cut, John commented that he had gotten a huge amount of positive feedback from customers who said they believed the movie plot and production values could stand alongside many independent mainstream features and hold people’s attention, even without the sex included.

The Fashionistas revolves around Rocco Siffredi, playing an Italian fashion designer who has come to America to try to form a partnership with an American fetish clothing company. He meets Taylor St. Claire, the owner of Fashionista, who convinces Rocco to develop a new clothing line with her. Belladonna plays Taylor’s assistant, a mousy young woman who just may have more substance to her than we originally notice. These characters unravel in a dramatic mystery love story that forms a highly charged erotic experience.

The original VHS of The Fashionistas swept the AVN Awards (10 awards) and XRCO awards (7 awards) in early 2003, winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, and several sex scene awards from both organizations.

John’s goal is to have the film version playing in an independent theatre by the end of 2003. There are several independent theatres in larger cities like San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles’ West Hollywood that have midnight showings of XXX (or current NC-17) films.

As a special surprise, Stagliano said that he has already added into the film a section of the vaginal fisting between Taylor and Belladonna which had originally been omitted from the original VHS and DVD releases.
