Mika Tan’s Throat, Super Bowl Wrap and Punk Rock

Mika’s Deep Throat Skills: In case you missed it, I have a new review up for Van Styles’ Take It Black 5 up. It’s a really solid IR title with memorable scenes from Hillary Scott, Riley Shy, Tia Tanaka and Kylee Richards. It also features a really fantastic fuck between Sean Michaels and Mika Tan. I marvel at Mika’s deep throat skills every time I see her. So I started thinking, “is she the best deep throat girl in the biz today?” I couldn’t think of anyone any better. Not in this age of fake gagging, dying seal impersonations and generally lackluster head. Mika taking every inch of Sean is damn impressive and what makes it even more amazing is that she does so without turning blue, gagging all over the place or yacking up her lunch. Can anyone working today touch her? How about the great throats of the past? How does Mika stack up against Bobbi Bliss? Or Anastasia Blue? Nikita Denise? And what about Taylor Hayes? Or Jeanna Fine? (Wild Goose Chase with Sean Michaels=Amazing DT). So who out there today can rival Mika’s skills? Perhaps we should come up with a list of some of the best scenes out there right now. Any idea? Oh and I still have yet to interview Mika. Every time I got close to her in Vegas, she took a break. I managed to snap only one picture, never got to say hello and couldn’t give her a Rog Rules T shirt. Hmmm, perhaps it wasn’t a coincidence? Was Mika ducking me? Oh no, now I’m going to be paranoid all day. Mika, please….

Super Bowl Wrap Up: Instead of the usual huge party at hour on Super Bowl Sunday, we did a quiet thing with just the family. It was kind of nice to have it a bit quieter, but I do miss having my friends and family over for the day. As usual, the game followed WAY too much pre-game hype, started late and featured more dud commercials than hits. The game itself was a lot closer than it should have been. The Colts dominated everything but scoreboard until late. It’s funny that Hester ran back that opening touchdown. I just heard the other day that it was something like a 15-1 bet that he would score the first touchdown. Guess some people cashed in on that one. Manning’s thumb was clearly hurting him, but he got the job done. In the end though it was the Colts defense that got the job done again. It was certainly a good game and that’s the important thing. Congratulations to the Colts and their fans. Don’t freeze your nuts off at the victory parade OK? Sorry to all the Bears fans out there. Look on the bright side though, at least you got there. Most of us can’t even say that. Now it’s time for some baseball. Pitchers and catchers report in 23 days rights?

Punk Rock: I honestly don’t know what I was searching for the other night, but somehow I ended up on a Dead Kennedys web site. (Do you ever find yourself on a site thinking…how the fuck did I get here?) Anyway I cruised around the DK site for a while and then cruised over to read more about the Feederz. Again, I’m not sure why. I wasn’t hugely fond of the Kennedys growing up. I’ve always preferred both the Circle Jerks and Black Flag. And the Feederz I only remember from a compilation LP my friend Paul had called “Let Them Eat Jelly Beans.” Anyway, I spent a little while reading lyrics and listening to sound clips. It didn’t take long for me to remember what a depressing and simultaneously comical form of expression this music can be. The lyrics are completely “in your face” and essentially “fuck everything.” On the one hand I have always found that a little sad, but in the end I just started laughing. I don’t mean to that sound like mocking and I don’t think they intend to be amusing. It is just such an obvious and ham-handed attempt to get under people’s skin without really saying much. The whole “religion sucks”, “I wipe my ass with the flag” and “Cops are Nazis, let’s kill them” stuff just ends up making me laugh. It’s like pro-wrestling stuff, but people seem to take it so seriously. What does that have to do with porn? I don’t know. It just seems like it parallels a lot of what we see in porn these days. Cheap shock for the sake of cheap shock. Nothing wrong with that of course. At least the punk bands make cool music to go along with the message. The same can’t be said for side show porn.

Reader Email: Last week I got some feedback on the HD-DVD Review of Island Fever 3. It was a very interesting and informative email about some of the technical aspects of the HD-DVD. That email inspired another. This time HoustonDon wants to weigh in. It’s another long email so it has been trimmed to get to the meat of the matter.

I saw your article about reviewing Island Fever 3 (mine’s Here).
I’m not the definitive source for HD info, but IF3 looked clearer, sharper, and had more detail. BG’s comment about “most mainstream HD DVD’s being 1080p” is misleading since only one player, the just released Toshiba HD-AX2, outputs to 1080p; all the others only read 720p so it shouldn’t be a major factor. I think you figured out his take being off base since he was comparing IF3, a porno, to mostly high end mainstream releases rather than porn. A mainstream critic that hasn’t watched porn “since his college days” (in the early 70’s) also reviewed it and skewered it as looking the same as the standard version but I wonder if he watched them both or his gear was so high end that it impacted his perceptions.

In any case, both IF3 and Camp Cuddly were shot awhile back, before the high definition format players were released. As good as they are, they aren’t going to look as good as $100 million movies made over months with the most advanced equipment and seasoned staff of operators. The titles shot for high def will improve quickly now and that’s a good thing for the format as well as porn. That said, I thought your review was fine and enjoyed the comparisons to the initial version of the release. Take care, Don

Thanks for the additional info Don. As I said when I replied to BluGen, I looked at the two versions of IF3 side by side. The improvement was quite noticeable. I did the exact same thing with my King Kong DVDs yesterday and had similar results. Since I haven’t seen Cuddly Pines (Apparently Wicked has a different screener list for HD) or any other adult titles, I can’t really say much about what BG had to offer. If this isn’t as good as HD can look, then I look forward to seeing what future releases have to offer. Bottom line as always, is that I write porn reviews. The content is really the key. The best looking porn movie in the world isn’t worth shit if there isn’t sexual heat. That’s just the raincoater in me coming to the forefront. Thanks again Don, I really appreciate the input.
