Marica Hase Celebrates a Decade of Kinbaku Artistry With Norio Sugiura

(Los Angeles, CA / August 18, 2026) – Marica Hase returns to one of the art forms she has long loved and respected with new kinbaku photography and video shot during her recent trip to Japan in collaboration with world-renowned kinbaku photographer Norio Sugiura, now featured at SugiuraNorio.jp.

Hase has worked as one of Sugiura’s models for more than 10 years and has an even longer history as a professional kinbaku model. Since living in Japan, she has participated in photography sessions and live performances with traditional rope masters, making kinbaku a lasting part of her work and artistic identity.

“Since I lived in Japan, I have worked as a kinbaku model and participated in many sessions with traditional rope masters,” said Hase. “Kinbaku is one of the art forms I have always loved and respected. I have been one of Norio Sugiura’s models for more than 10 years, and I am very happy to share the photos and videos we shot during my last trip to Japan. The positions and setups are very difficult, but these are my favorite moments.”

Hase’s latest kinbaku work is part of Sugiura’s collaborations with internationally known rope artists, with the performances and sessions photographed in a very dynamic, almost live-documentary style. Sugiura is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading kinbaku photographers.

International visitors can explore Hase’s latest work at SugiuraNorio.jp, which also offers an English-language menu.
