Jules Jordan Wins Big at 2004 AVN Awards
Every year, AVN puts on a star-studded award show in Las Vegas to hand out trophies to those they feel are the most deserving people in porn. This annual event is followed by plenty of Monday morning quarterbacking by folks like me, It is tradition to talk about how AVN missed the boat on a certain movie or how they snubbed a particular star. While there will certainly be plenty of that this year, AVN hit the nail on the head with one thing; they made Jules Jordan a big winner this year. He went home with six trophies to add to his collection some long-overdue recognition as one of the best sex shooters in the business.
Cynical porn fans and internet critics might point out that AVN is a bit late to the party on the Jordan’s obvious skills. He has been one of the most popular directors in the business since popping up in the late 90’s with titles such as “Live Bait” and “New Breed.” With a visual style heavily influenced by John Stagliano’s Buttman movies, Jordan combined outstanding tease footage with POV (Point of View) camera work that quickly won him scores of fans and critical acclaim on the internet. Fans loved the sexual energy he brought to his movies and critics couldn’t help but notice the technical proficiency. His style and popularity also caught the eye of Stagliano who added Jordan to Evil Angel in 2001. A perfect with the Evil Empire, Jordan created popular lines like “Flesh Hunter” and “Ass Worship.”
Over the years, Jordan has worked closely with a number of performers, building a rapport with such fan favorites as Leanni Lei, Charmane Star, Cris Taliana, Jessica Darlin and of course, Lexington Steele. At Pleasure, Jordan and Steele teamed up for two immensely popular “Heavy Metal” movies that featured Lex doing what he does best, laying serious pipe to some of the hottest girls in the business. When Jordan made the move to Evil Angel, they hooked up once again for two “Lex the Impaler” movies that topped the “Heavy Metal” movies in overall heat and really took things to a new a level.
Though not his first big showing at an awards show, the 2004 AVN Awards were very good to Jules Jordan. He was the deserving winner of six statuettes in some prestigious categories. His “Flesh Hunter 5” took home the award as Best Gonzo Release. This outstanding movie featured award-caliber scenes from Taylor Rain and Sabrine Maui and was one of my favorite movies from 2003. He swept the anal awards taking Best Anal-Themed Feature with “Ass Worship 4” and locking down the Best Anal Themed Series for the entire Ass Worship line. AVN also recognized what raincoaters have known for years, that Jordan’s style is perfect for oral sex movies. They named “Feeding Frenzy 2” the Best Oral-Themed Feature, though feel short of letting him sweep this category. (Gag Factor from JM Productions won for Best Oral Themed Series.) Jordan received an award for his work in the Best Three-Way Sex Scene as well when his tryst with Jessica Darlin and Brian Pumper (From “Weapons of Ass Destruction 2) took home top honors for three-way banging. Perhaps the biggest award for Jordan this year was Best All-Sex DVD for “Flesh Hunter 4.” With the adult business becoming so dominated by DVDs, this win puts Jordan on top where it counts the most.
No longer an unknown, Jules Jordan has been climbing up the charts among those in the mainstream porn press, and collecting plenty of awards along the way. The critics may take a little longer than the fans to warm up to a director, but AVN has finally discovered Jules Jordan and has recognized him for the brilliant pornographer he is. This year’s AVN Awards has solidified him as the most critically acclaimed all-sex director working. In a year when AVN got it right on a lot of occasions, the recognition of Jules Jordan is perfect vindication for those of us who have been driving the Jordan-bandwagon for years.
