This is one of two big features Will Ryder did in 2022. While the other, Love, Sex & Fashion, was a comedy about the fashion biz, this project is more serious. Love, Sex & Music takes a look at the country music business. It follows the story of a young singer songwriter (September Reign in an award-nominated performance) as she struggles for fame in a cutthroat industry. She does a very nice job with her dialog and in a pair of sex scenes. She gets the finale which is probably the best scene in the movie and also a solo round to get things started. Vanna Bardot earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as the pop star who wants a country hit and will step on anyone, and sleep with everyone to get it. Nina Elle plays a corrupt executive who adds another solo bang to the mix. Toss in a great looking Whitney Wright sex scene and you have a nice mix of solid action and eye candy. Misty Stone and Frank Bukkwyd also grabbed nominations for their supporting roles. While there are a few good laughs along the way, this movie is more serious than Ryder’s partner piece. It is nicely written and stands out largely because the music is top notch. If you are going to make a movie about the music business, it helps when the soundtrack adds to the tone and it certainly does here. I enjoyed L, S & F but the high production values and solid performances made Love, Sex & Music my favorite Will Ryder movie of the year.
