Reader Response to Justin Long #2

A Black Consumer’s Take

By now I hope most of you have read Justin Long’s Guest Editorial on race relations and the future of porn. I opened it up to reader comments and got this one in the mail. Idigtitz has been kind enough to give us his two cents. Please read them and comment at will. Same rules apply. Be polite or don’t bother. We can have a discussion, even a heated one, without breaking down and coming rude.

Idigtitz Writes:
Read Justin Long’s review of the “Industry vs. IR”-
First of all, I am a consumer/enthusiast of the industry. I have been since the 80s and before.
I understand Mr. Long’s plight. Over the years, as I have collected and viewed, I
have noticed that a lot of the “higher demand”, or “hot & now”
caucasion adult actresses tend to shy away from black male performers. This is not
the case w/all of them-there have been some exceptions. I had often thought long
about that, and had rendered conclusion that, statistics don’t lie.

Food for thought: Adult Male Fantasy. Predominantly, caucasion males tend to be heavier consumers of adult content-i’m not sure where. black males fall in this consumer’s category but, I’m banking its behind white males. White males, just like any other male on mother earth, has a lot of fantasies, when it comes to their counterparts-for A LOT of these men, these fantasies do not include interracial sex between black men &
white women. I would think this is due to the strain of relations between black and
white men over the years. On the other side of the coin, black consumers (men), tend
to be more open when viewing ir adult content. Its much more welcomed, depending on
the male.

While there may be some racism present, it can’t solely be blamed on the big
companies or the actresses alone. The big companies are out to get paid, and to get
paid, you have to give the customers what they want, or they will find it elsewhere.
A lot of the “blame”, per se` can be attached to the dominant customer
base. The remedy? Black consumers can step up, purchase more ir content, and
ultimately DEMAND QUALITY ir content. (Which may include contract stars)(when there is a demand, supply must be present) Consumers drive the industry when they take the time to think about it. If YOU establish a presence, THEY will listen. The industry
and its constituents are out to earn a living. These “in demand” actresses,
are no different than anyone else. They. are looking to earn and maintain a living.

If the fans/consumers are calling for specific acts, from the”in demand”
actress, she can embrace it, or potentially lose some of her fanbase.

Like I stated in the beginning, I understand Mr. Long’s frustration. I hope that he
took the time to think this through, before passing judgement on an individual, or a
group of individuals. Sometimes things are not what they appear to be-i’m not
directly affiliated w/the industry, this is strictly an outsider’s pov. What goes on
in the secret locations, the rented-out beach-front properties, the big suburban
victorian(s)at the end of the culdesac, behind the partitions in a run-down structure
somewhere downtown, well-is way beyond me. He’s reported on what his experience has
been. He has a bird’s-eye view of what’s really going on. I just wanted to spotlight
another angle of what could be happening.
