Porn Tax Is Wrong

In response to the porn tax blogs I got an email that I’m going to share. (More feedback is always good people. The more voices the better.)

Less Writes:

Rog: you are absolutely correct in opposing the suggested porn tax on the basis of selective taxation. I think there’s an even better reason to oppose it. The hacks in Sacramento haven’t been able to balance a budget in 10 years, and are now facing a 17 billion dollar deficit, after borrowing 30 billion to make ends meet. Until they can manage the money we give them now, there is no reason on earth to give them on penny more. It’s estimated that 25% of the deficit is due to lost income taxes, lost due to people moving out of the state because of their disgust over the lack of leadership and high taxes.
I’ve called the members of the California Senate and Assembly political prostitutes for years. I found out recently that prostitutes are offended by the comparison. Guess I’ll have to find a new analogy.
I’ve said it before and it bears repeating: your site is one of the few places on the web where logical intelligent libertarian ideas can be found. Keep it up.
Regards,

Thank you Les. As usual you flatter me. You hit the nail on the head. This proposed tax is just the latest scam to raise money that they have pissed away. Rather than looking for a way to stop their runaway spending, trim the fat or God forbid, stop fully funding free education, medical care and welfare to anyone who trots across the border, Calderon and his cronies are looking for anything and everything to tax. Let’s face it porn isn’t popular. Sure it’s a six billion dollar industry and more people enjoy it than will ever admit it, but it is an easy target. No one in public office is going to step up and defend porn. Instead we have to hope that some lawmakers will stand up against this tax because selective taxation is just wrong. Let’s hope that the voices of reason, be they Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or otherwise prevail on this one. Thank you for the input and the support.
