DVD technology has taken over the world of porn. Sales of DVDs are skyrocketing at such an amazing rate that many new companies are putting most of their efforts into DVD production. From the beginning, companies have scrambled to take advantage of the new technology. Among these new features is the ability to shoot scenes from multiple angles. This allows viewers more control over what they see and has given rise to a very popular genre of DVD-only porn, the virtual sex disc. Shot primarily from the viewer’s point of view, these discs are designed to make the audience feel a vicarious thrill while watching their favorite starlet on screen. In short, they are the closest thing to being there that you can find in the world of porn.
A number of companies are making virtual sex DVDs these days, but two lines stand out above the rest. Digital Playgrounds “Virtual Sex” and Digital Sin’s “My Plaything” are the best known and the most complete discs of their kind on the market. Both lines compete for the top talent in the business and regularly do battle for supremacy.
Since virtual sex DVDs depend heavily on their stars, top names like Tera Patrick, Jenna Jameson, Jewel De’Nyle and Silvia Saint are in high demand. Many women have even appeared in both lines as they fight for fan loyalty and support.
The jewel in the “My Plaything” series has to be their most recent release, “My Plaything: Jenna Jameson 2” A few years ago, Jenna teamed with a strap-on wielding Briana Banks for her first MP appearance. Fans were understandably pleased to see her return to the line and do a DVD with a male co-star. The two-disc set was packed with some of the best virtual sex Digital Sin has shot to date as well as bonus materials like outtakes, photo galleries, behind the scenes footage and an additional lesbian scene with Latin sensation Carmen Luvana.
DP’s “Virtual Sex” has never lacked star power either. Jenna, Tera Patrick, Janine and Taylor Hayes are just some of the big names who have given fans a virtual thrill. With a head start on the competition, “Virtual Sex” set the standard and everyone else has been trying to catch up.
Both lines have similar features. The viewer can choose the type of action (Usually foreplay, oral or intercourse), the positions (doggy, missionary, cowgirl etc) and even how the scene looks by switching camera angles at will. Both lines allow you to switch from a sweet talking starlet to a foul talking slut with the push of a button. Where they seem to differ a little is in how the cumshots are handled. The “My Plaything” line always provides one real cumshot, usually a facial, and a number of digitally inserted shots. This allows the viewer to see a pop at the end of every position, but the fake look leaves some viewers cold.
So which line is better? It’s a tough call. With a number of virtual sex series coming up the charts, these two still stand out as the best of the bunch. I generally say that which one you like better depends on how much you like the woman in the lead. After all, if you can’t get off watching Jill Kelly, then it doesn’t matter how good the disc is, it’s not going to work for you. If I had to pick the better line currently I would go with “My Plaything” by a nose based on the strength of the new Jenna DVD. Of course all that could change the second Digital Playground puts out a “Virtual Sex” starring Aurora Snow.
