Football & AVN Noms

Weekend Wrap: Whew, what a football weekend. Guess my predictions weren’t so hot though. I picked the USC winner, but the game wasn’t nearly as close as I thought it would be. The Trojans really rolled over the Irish. Five in a row in that rivalry and they are finally back at number two in the BCS poll. Too soon to get too excited though because there is still one more game to go. If they can get by UCLA in the big rivalry game, then it’s off to Arizona to take on OSU. (Looks like you might be right after all Den. USC/OSU for the title.)

Eye Candy: Young & Cute Cherry Potter.

AVN Nominations: The Directors.

Our first look at the fields will focus on the director awards. This year AVN has added a category for Best Director: Body of Work. I’m really glad they did this. It’s one of the best new awards in years. For a long time it has been tough to compare guys who do one or two movies a year to the people who do ten really great titles.

Best Director ” Film

• Andrew Blake, Valentina, Studio A Entertainment
• Brad Armstrong, Manhunters, Wicked Pictures (My Review)
• Buck Adams, Uninhibited, Antigua Pictures
• Jenna Jameson, Jenna’s Provocateur, ClubJenna/Vivid Entertainment Group
• Paul Thomas, Emperor, Vivid Entertainment Group (My Review)

I wonder if we aren’t too far from a time when the video/film distinction will be removed from the voting. I certainly understand that the two are different animals on many levels, but further down the road one has to wonder if Best Lesbian Scene-Film is really that different from Best Lesbian Scene- Video. This list of directors is pretty much filled with people we would expect. I’ve yet to see Jenna’s movie or Buck’s but will be watching them this week. I had some issues with Manhunters and was impressed with a lot of what Thomas did with Emperor. Interesting field and I don’t really have a favorite yet.

Best Director – Non-Feature

• Celeste, Intoxicated, Digital Playground
• Ethan Kane, Game, Digital Sin
• JacktheZipper, Blacklight Beauty, Pulse Pictures
• John Leslie, Naomi…There’s Only One, John Leslie/Evil Angel
Joone, Island Fever 4, Digital Playground (My Review)
Jules Jordan, Jenna Haze Dark Side, Jules Jordan Video (My Review)
• Kimberly Kane, Naked and Famous, Pulse Pictures
• Laurent Sky, Porno Revolution, Sky World/ClubJenna/Vivid Entertainment Group
• Marty Zion, The Chronicles of Nectar, Nectar Entertainment
• Michael Ninn, Neo Pornographia 4, Ninn Worx
• Miles Long, Addicted Again, New Sensations
• Red Ezra, McKenzie Made, ClubJenna/Vivid Entertainment Group
• Richard Monfort & Barry Wood, Flesh Gallery, Adam & Eve Pictures
• Tyrone Shuz, Erotica XXX 12, Digital Sin
• Winkytiki, The Rebelle Rousers, Vivid-Alt

I have a lot of movies to watch in this category. I’ve barely done enough to judge, but the two I did review, Island Fever 4 and Jenna Haze Darkside were both very impressive for they are. There is one movie that I wish were on this list, My Girlfriend’s Whore Friend. I think it is as good as anything I’ve seen all year. Of course, narrowing down all of the non-features to a list this short is tough enough without nit-picking one single movie. I’ll come back to this category later in the week when I’ve checked out the rest of the titles. I can hardly wait to watch Winkytiki’s flick.

Director of the Year (Body of Work)

• Belladonna
• Brad Armstrong
• Celeste
• David Stanley
• Ethan Kane
• Jake Malone
• Jim Powers
• Joanna Angel
• Joey Silvera
• Jonni Darkko
• Jules Jordan
• Laurent Sky
• Lexington Steele
• Paul Thomas
• Robby D.

I already said that I love the addition of this category, but it bears repeating. One could make a strong case for any of the people one this list. I won’t do that, but I am very impressed by a really deep field. From feature staples like Thomas and Armstrong to raincoater favorites like Malone and Silvera, you can’t pick a weak name here. Jules Jordan, Lexington Steele, Robby D and of course the hardest working guy in porn, Jim Powers all show up. Picking one is going to be really tough.

That’s it for today. Performer awards tomorrow. Back to work I go.
