Notes For the Weekend
Notes: Despite my best efforts and Old-Bee’s sage advice I have spent far too much this time on the issues of last week. I’ve been trying to defuse the thread with some humor and by standing firmly in the middle. Of course that is the position that most often gets me in trouble with the bomb throwers. *Starts singing “Well I don’t know why I came here tonight/I go the feeling that something ain’t right.* . Since I’ve spent so much time there I am going to just throw out some quick thoughts for the weekend. Then I have to get back to “O: The Power of Submission.”

– It struck me this week that the porn media has followed a similar path to that taken by the non-adult “press.” With AVN/HEVG etc. as the traditional networks, the wave of independent review/news/gossip sites as the first wave of “new media” (talk radio) and now the current crop of net savvy newcomers as a sort of “blogger media.” Thoughts? Comments?

– Why is it that virtually every thread turns into a big fight? Is it possible that just saying something nice about someone, some thing, some idea is just too silly to bother with? (I say that largely because of the emails I get saying that I’m “kissing ass” by not fighting back when there is no fight to be had.) Just curious.

– As far as I know I am still voting in the AVN Awards and the XRCO. I wouldn’t expect that to change. I am proud to take part in these votes and have always said so. It took a long time for magazines to open up and grant some voice to the fans and consumers. That is what my inclusion means to me. I’ve never felt it was about me, but about you, the people who show up at smut shacks and buy the new releases, who work hard for your money and choose to spend it on porn. Paul should get a LOT of credit for opening up the voting to people who represent folks who might have tastes and interest that run counter to what the industry wants. I think that takes a lot of guts.

– Off that topic for a bit, I’ve got some fun new eye candy to put this weekend. Moxxxie sent over some hot “Rog Rules” ink shots to add to the Lipstick Gallery. I also have some very nice shots of Savannah and a couple of her friends as well as some beautiful shots of a reader/aspiring set design artist named Alicia that I think you’re going to love. (That is, if I can finish this review and stop writing about this silly stuff.)

– For those of you wondering, the first shipment of care package stuff is on the way to our brave servicemen. Some of it may have to wait at the base here for them because we don’t want to get them into trouble. Thanks to Brandon Iron and Red Light District for the generous contributions they made. What we could use now are some nice PG-rated 8×10’s from some of you lovely ladies out there reading. What do you say?

– I really am not going to post a bunch of your emails on this. Please don’t consider that dismissive. I appreciate the love, understand the irony and am just trying to not play into the drama. Take no offense please. That said, I have to post this little quote because it makes me smile. Rog: I never (and the Rock means NEVER) thought I would see you actually steal the high road from someone in a chat thread. How did that happen? Who are you and what have you done with our Rog?”. Hmmmm, does that mean I shouldn’t post the eight page rant I had ready for tomorrow? (Kidding.)

Well drat. Now it’s time to go to election training again. Have to go learn how to set up those voting machines and tape signs to windows. (The scary thing is that I think some of the people in the classes really do need the training twice a year.) I’ve got more notes including stuff on the World Series, Carmen Luvana and perhaps even a little X-Files piece I’ve written this week that I hope will amuse some of you. Oh and thank you for the love-fest. Seriously, it’s nice to know that some people appreciate what I do. Even if the emails don’t get posted, I appreciate them and the internet threads. Den’s my man. And….”theman” who are you? That’s the big question right? (Well it certainly helps with my X-Files piece.)
