For six volumes of Control, Robby D has taken us on an interesting trip. The action in this line is less compartmentalized and more like Forest’s proverbial box of chocolates. We can never be sure exactly what we’re going to get. We’ve talked a lot about how much I enjoy that aspect. Most porn today is totally compartmentalized. What Robby has done with Control is just kind of throw everything into the mix so that we can decide what we like and what we don’t. It has worked far more often than not. Velvet Rose is pretty damn sexy, but what makes her scene work is the whole plastic wrap thing and the light fem-dom vibe. It’s pretty good, but if you happen to really like this kind of scene then you are going to flip. Ditto that with the Faye scene. She is pretty cute and does a decent scene. If you really love pale, freckled redheads, then pump that scene up a few notches. The opening scene works if you love tease. There is a lot of it here and even though some tightening would help you are bound to love the end result. The only scene that I see as a total loss is the one with Alyssa. It is supposed to be rough I think, but it just comes across as joyless. That isn’t what we have come to expect from Robby. Luckily, this is a movie that lives and dies on variety. More often than not, it lives.
