This is Teravision’s first release in their Celebrity Series. Unlike other celebrity driven porn, this line won’t feature hot young celebutantes getting fucked on camera. The idea behind this series is to take celebrities from the mainstream world and help them realize their erotic visions for our viewing pleasure. I don’t know how many people were lined up to see Dave Navarro’s erotic vision, but here it is in shining color. Broken stars Sasha Grey and if you’re going to cross over from mainstream to porn, casting Sasha in your movie is a very, very good idea. She is very sexy and capable of just about any kind of scene anyone could ever hope for. There isn’t really any acting to be done here, but Sasha holds the action together by moving from ‘scene’ to ‘scene’ Much of the action takes place all at once with the crew clearly visible. (Didn’t Otto Bauer, Skeeter Kerkove and Jim Powers already try this?) We know what Dave can do musically and what Sasha can do in front of the camera. Now we get to see what he can do behind a camera with one of porn’s hottest stars at his disposal.
Against a stark white background, Mark and Sasha connect for a rough-ish ex scene that looks like an homage to Andrew Blake minus the slow motion. It is mostly joyless and has that pretentious feel of a scene that tries really hard to be a background video at a rave without having to admit that it’s porn. Mark grabs her by the neck and hate fucks her. I suppose the ultra soft look mixed with this pseudo-rough sex could be considered interesting to some audiences. I’m just bowled over by easy it is to waste great talent by glazing everything with three layers of pretentious art house crap.
This is where things get very disjointed. Jenna and Tommy play out the old pizza guy thing with a typical twist. We actually fast forward through the awkward seduction and get right to the action. That would be fine, but at the same time this scene is being shot, Sasha is wandering the set, trying to fuck. There are two other scenes also going on at the same time. So on the one hand we have Jenna drooling all over a hard cock and on the other, we have a bunch of other stuff to get in the way. I’m not sure what we should take from this. It’s a jumble of images that come at us from every angle and offer nothing in the way of stroke material. It does provide us a chance to see a shadowy Navarro roaming the set and directing the action. This would be a good time to make a mental note of how hot Jenna is and use that note later when you’re watching the scenes uninterrupted. Sasha finishes off her blowjob with a facial and then joins Jenna. That’s right porn fans, Jenna and Sasha sharing a dick. It should be great porn, but we’re still moving all around. Dave gives Sasha a little pep talk as he send her to another part of the set so she can light up one of the other sex scenes. We’ll cover the sexual specifics when I break down the scenes. In its present form, this long segment is going to frustrate raincoaters and leave viewers reaching for their bottles of Ritalin. Even with Sasha as the string that holds these scenes loosely together, it fails sexually in a big way. They try to bring an end to this sexual circus with an Audrey Bitoni scene. The picture is washed out and any heat there might be is totally lost under layers of what we can generously call ‘style.’

Sasha Grey & Mark Davis: Pretty much what we already saw. Washed out picture, dispassionate rough sex.
Sasha Grey & Marco: POV BJ. The din in the background reminds us that this takes place in the middle of a big mess, but you can’t argue with the visuals. Sasha plays to the camera perfectly and gives great head.
Jenna Haze & Tommy Gunn: Anyone interested in getting off to this movie should go right to this scene. It’s very good and watching it this way we can actually see that. I am tempted to remind everyone that cutting this up is nearly criminal, but let’s jut enjoy it for what it is, the single best sexual interaction of this project. Having Sasha in there for a while is hot and the popshot is pure foot fetish fantasy fodder.
Victoria Sin & Spyder Jonez: High impact, low heat sex here. It’s just kind of a going through the motions thing. That shows more in this format than it did when we only saw clips. The harsh colors and lighting are less interesting when it is presented as a whole sex scene a well.
Lisa Daniels & Kayla Paige: Throw in girl/girl action that was fine in short doses, but as a whole sex scene is just kind flat.
Audrey Bitoni & Marco Banderas: This is a little better than it was in the movie as a whole. Audrey is very hot and only the washed out picture quality keeps it from being a second great stroke scene.
Extras: There are a ton of trailers here, a nice photo shoot reel and then four making of featurettes. These are pretty interesting and get more so based on how much you liked the feature. If you dug the whole thing, this is a chance to get a closer look at the whole thing. The best thing that this DVD offers is the ability to play the sex scenes uncut. Since they offer little strokeable footage during the movie, it is good to have them available in this form.
This is an odd little movie. There isn’t really a story here and barely even a concept to speak of. Sasha starts with Mark smacking her and ends up turning the tables on him after her oddball visit to the porn set. The sex scenes really have no impact other than as background noise and contain virtually no stroke value as part of the movie. Do yourself a favor though. Use the option to view each scene individually. There are some hot moments to be sure. Jenna and Tommy tear things up, Sasha sucks like a champ and Audrey provides some good heat. As a whole, Broken is not a good movie sexually. It is a disjointed and pretentious as anything the alt-porn world could think up. It seems to be more an exercise in editing than in pornography. Where it works is as an experiment in erotic art. By having three scenes going at once, Navarro has created a sexual circus that works outside of the porn norm. At times it is visually stunning, a barrage of color and light. It certainly isn’t like all the other porn flicks on the shelves and I would imagine that fits Navarro’s vision just fine.
