This is a difficult time for the adult industry. The recent HIV crisis and subsequent quarantine of many performers has generated a lot of debate concerning the future of our industry. Mandatory condom use and government intervention have become daily subjects of discussion. With time, let’s hope that cooler heads prevail and that the adult industry can continue to regulate itself in a responsible manner, one that protects the interests of performers and producers alike. CAL OSHA has no place regulating the porn industry.

Common sense dictates that people will find a way around the system resulting in potentially greater risks to performer’s health.

The sky is not falling in Los Angeles, nor anywhere else for that matter. knee-jerk reactions such as mandatory condom useage are not the answer to the problem, in my opinion. We need to take responsibility for our actions and live with the consequences.

Darren James and Lara Coxx both have a great deal of friends and supporters. I have known Darren since 1997 and consider him a good friend. It bothers me to read posts on internet message boards villifying him because I know he is a person who takes his health and the health of his fellow performers very seriously.

Out of all this tragedy, some good should, must, and will come out of it. The industry will continue. People will keep making movies, albeit with a little
more caution. Talent will verify tests more frequently. Testing procedures from countries other than the United States will be scrutinized. Likewise,
talent visiting these countries from the U.S. will be subjected to local tests before being allowed to work with talent.

Now is the time for Darren’s supporters to show him that he still can earn a living in the industry. Although he won’t perform in front of the camera, he
can still play a role within the adult community. As Winston Churchill said, “This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. It is, perhaps, only the end of the beginning.”
