Griffey 600 & The Finals

I wouldn’t normally do a whole sports blog, but I just got a call that has me in a sports kind of mood. As it turns out I am going to Game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight at Staples. It was totally unexpected, by my brother in law just happened to get asked to go with his boss to the game in the company luxury suite. Since he knows that I am a huge Celtic fan and that I love NBA games, I got the invite. I’ve never been to an NBA Finals game, and this one should be really good. I’ll be smack in the middle of enemy territory, so hopefully I’ll come out on the other side. If not, my current will is tucked away inside of my Fashionistas DVD case. .

Eye Candy: New from AssesInPublic.com, Nicole Banks shows off her stuff in public.

Junior Hits 600: Last night Ken Griffey Jr. hit home run number 600. That puts him in a class with only five other players. Bonds, Aaron, Ruth, Mays, Sosa and Griffey. Am I the only one that sees that list with a hint of “which one doesn’t belong”? At only 38, there is no reason to believe that Junior won’t climb even higher. He’s just a handful behind Sosa and 61 short of Mays. Watching him interviewed after the game I was struck by the simple fact that Griffey really is the anti-Bonds. He’s good natured, funny and everyone seems to love him. It makes me think that had he not faced so many injuries over the years, we would have been watching Griffey chase down Aaron instead of Bonds. Somehow I imagine that people would have been a whole lot happier about that.

Eye Candy: A little Renae Cruz action from VouyerMedia.com Enjoy.

Notes on the Finals: OK, anyone who cares has already read 100 articles on the Celtics/Lakers history. Just a few notes of my own. Back in the 80’s, one of the dynamics of the C/L match ups was clearly racial. People saw Boston as the “white” team and they clearly had the better pale players. Bird, McHale, Ainge, Walton, Roberts, Schisting even Greg Kite. You can’t say that any more. Take a look at the Boston bench. Not even a token white guy. PJ Brown sent former Trojan Brian Scalabrine to the end of the bench in street clothes. Meanwhile, LA is filled with Euros. If anything, this version of the Lakers has be the “white” squad. Not that I care one way or another. Bird/McHale/Parrish, Pierce/Garnett.Allen, black/white….nope, it’s all green to me. The 80’s Celtics were also the “ugly” squad and they really deserved that. McHale, DJ, Bird, Walton, wow what an ugly bunch. Fast forward 20 years and now the Lakers are really tough to watch. Gasol is one of the ugliest mugs in the league. What is up with that junior high beard? Dude, take a Sharpie and color that bad boy in. Some things may have changed, but the overall dynamic is the same.
