    Various comments:
Big Bust is tough since I really prefer domestic performers and all natural tits over implants.
Big Ass is easy since I like big, heart shaped, toned asses (as opposed to simply fat cellulite asses). A lot of tease is important to me too, hence my continued appreciate for titles from JJV and Evil.
“Best” in general does include intensity, passion, chemistry, and top notch cast.
Underworld does a great job in so many categories, hence my review months ago giving it an Xcritic Pick.
I liked Bridesmaids too, DP not offering as many standouts this year, they seem to be slipping away quickly.
Oil Overload, for me, beats out just about everything in the categories it is nominated in; my appreciation for oiled up hotties carrying over from the various Big Wet titles by Elegant that used to be so good.
Parodies seem to be spreading into non-parody categories this year more than previously.
It seems funny that Julie Simone is not up for various BDSM awards but I think she left for other ventures so…

    Question for pondering:
How would you/do you vote for cross over performer? There are so many ways to go with it, some projects pretty well known but a smaller role while other smaller projects have a bigger role (not having seen anything by Sunny Leone from India limits my willingness to rank her as high except that so few stand out in the category). I’d be nice if we didn’t have to research it so heavily…

Hi Roger, wonderful podcasts. I want to give my thoughts on why parodies and other types of genres are penetrating other categories. I believe that the adult film audience have become more inclusive with more women viewers as well as those men who are attracted to parodies such as the superhero ones. It’s on account of this more diverse audience that award categories are becoming more diverse. I like that there has been more focus on couples-themed and romance films. Furthermore, with a more diverse and probably more sophisticated audience, the feature films are beginning to step up a notch in recent times too (for example, Elegant Angel’s Portrait of a Call Girl and Wasteland and Wicked Pictures’ Underworld). This higher quality of filmmaking is also making the porn stars better actors as well. When we look back at this time in porn history [2008 to the present and who knows how much longer in the future] (from the inception of big time parodies Not the Bradys XXX and Not the Cosbys XXX along with the inception of MILF oriented type films, and the boom in Girl-Girl flicks to the continuing progression of high quality features), one can say that we are in a Golden Age of Porn right now despite the piracy issues that have hurt the industry.

    Welcome Apache George (another voter)!
The only way I think this might be considered a “Golden Age” of porn is from the perspective of the audience because thanks to the internet, far more people have immediate access to seeing porn without the hassle of paying for it or going to a store/ordering it. Technological changes have forced some improvement on the look of porn too, it wasn’t long ago when I was chastised by some companies for heaping extra praise on anamorphic widescreen titles or proper lighting, but I think the original Golden Age of porn was better in terms of consistency in movies, the current age offering more choices to more people. In terms of category bleed over, I’m surprised you didn’t mention TS titles/performers getting more exposure in higher profile flicks too but as Roger pointed out in the previous podcast, category creep pits hardcore sex scenes against softer, lightweight scenes; my own preference well established.

  4. Apache Warrior says:

    Hi Don,

I should had defined “Golden Age” better. I was in the middle of preparing my turkey for Christmas dinner. I agree that it’s the Golden Age from the perspective of the audience since there is so much more variety of porn as well as more access to it. As far as TS titles/performers are concerned, I was going to wait and talk about those when Roger gets closer to talking about the TS categories. I think that TS porn is becoming more popular because the performers look very feminine and many can be mistaken for a woman. It’s this “eye candy” appeal that has lured many porn fans to this genre. Also, the pairing of transsexual performers with female performers is a big factor too. Female stars like Katie St. Ives, Ava Devine, and Angelina Valentine must be given much credit to work with trannies since they are awesome women.

    Hey guys,

Every time we produce a movie we are giving it our best effort be it for Grease XXX or Not the Wizard of Oz XXX or Not the Bradys XXX so I totally understand your Golden Age comments and agree with much of what you said. Often times economics get in the way and because we are mixing art with commerce, many of us have to compact our shooting schedules and do other budget tightening tasks that we do not like to do in order to stay in the black. Gone are the days of 8 day shoots and that to me is sad because I really enjoyed working with the actors and getting the perfect line exchange that really brought the characters to life. Without the benefit of extra time to shoot, there is no way we could have made Not Married with Children XXX as good as it turned out.

Now days, you have to be ultra concerned with the acting ability of who you are casting because the luxury of taking your time to get dialogue just right is gone. At least for X-Play, and by no means are we Wicked or Vivid or one of the big money players, we are operating in a fast-paced environment but no matter how short our production window is, I just cannot move on until I am happy with the interaction of my actors. I just have to get happy much quicker these days, Hence, we are usually shooting all night and in the case of Not the Wizard of Oz XXX well…. you know that story and I love my cast and crew for their insanely good dedication. That was a very special projects and one that I will remember for years and I am so happy that the cast and crew was rewarded with a lot of recognition both with the AVN Awards and the XBiz Award nominations. They deserve it and I want them to win.

I would hate to be a voter because that is no easy job. So good luck with finishing that process and we hope to see you in the winner’s circle at least once.
