THE PIPELINE: JANUARY 2003

Welcome to 2003 my friends. I trust you all had a wonderful holiday season filled with laughter, love, family, friends, giving and joy. With the world locked in the icy chill of winter, I sit here in SoCal, under sunny skies and feeling the chill that can only mean the mercury has dipped just south of seventy degrees. I’ll heat up some cider and brave the bone chilling cold to bring you the latest from Porn Valley. As this column hits the net, we are winding down another year in porn-land and there is much to discuss, to reflect upon and look forward to.

Can there be a bigger story than the apparent exit from porn of the biggest star the business has? Tera Patrick stunned many in porn this month when she announced her plans to leave the adult business for good. Though still under contract from Digital Playground, rumors began to surface a while ago that she would dump smut in favor of her rocker boyfriend. Mike South was the first to break the story on his web site, www.mikesouth.com and he was pretty much dead on. During her career, Tera has enjoyed a great deal of publicity and media attention and now is set to leave the people who helped create that sensation hanging. Word from Tera has been nearly impossible to come by and repeated attempts to get a comment from her have gone unanswered. Digital Playground has stated that they expect Tera to honor her contract, leaving a number of unanswered questions. Is she required to shoot any more movies? What will become of The Tera Show? Will she still produce content for her web site? Was it this boyfriend who mandated her no-interracial policy all along? Until we actually hear from Tera herself all we can do is speculate. Right now it seems that Tera joins a long line of women who achieve stardom, bite the hands that feed them, bolt from the biz and leave a lot of people hanging.

Perhaps the only story more cloudy and confusing that the Tera retirement is the latest mess to come from Extreme Associates. Huge changes have become normal at Extreme, but the latest housecleaning has most people scratching their heads. The last two Extreme/Armageddon contract girls, Veronica Caine and Bisexual Britni are gone. I haven’t been able to get any word from Extreme on either of these women and Veronica has been unavailable for comment. Britni was apparently bought out of her contract leaving Extreme without a contract girl for the first time since they were formed. Is this the end of the Extreme Contract Girl? The tradition that began with Tiffany Mynx, grew with Jessica Darlin, Stryc-9, Jasmine St. Clair and Veronica Caine may be dead, but their slutty perfection will live on in countless compilation tapes and DVDs. More on the Extreme situation later in this column.

As some contract girls fade, others are added. In a very unexpected move this month, Jules Jordan announced an exclusive deal with a brand new cutie named Cris. She will appear in at least 12 productions for Jordan over the next year. The lovely young woman contacted Jordan on her own and was shot a day after turning 18 years old. “She couldn’t wait to turn 18 so she could start doing porn, this is the most insatiable teenager I have ever shot, she just worships dick, just loves to fuck, has an amazing ass, and is 100% teen lust.” Said the award winning director of his new find. Cris’ first movie will be “Flesh Hunter 4” due out in early February of 2003. Cris will also accompany Jordan to AVN’s Adult Expo in Las Vegas this month. Look for an interview and some photos to follow shortly.

As the year closes, voting has been completed in the 2002 Rog Reviews Fan Faves awards. This year there were better anti-cheating measures in place to keep the polls more tightly controlled. Controversy still followed as a few competitors went out of their way to drum up support. In the end, Bisexual Britni fought off Jenna Haze to capture the award for Best Female Performer. Lexington Steel and Rocco Siffredi waged a close war for Best Male Performer that ended in a dead heat. Lex gets to keep his crown as top stud, but has to share it with Rocco. Taylor Rain outlasted Ashley Blue to take the award as Best Newbie. Jules Jordan repeated as Best Director, defeating fellow Evil Angel directors John Stagliano and Rocco to take the top spot. Evil Angel edged out two-time champion Anabolic as Best Company. For the third year in a row, Britney Spears won as the celebrity we most want to see go XXX. Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to everyone who participated this year. Awards will be handed out during the Adult Expo.

Porn babe and Pirate Magazine model Gina Lynn has landed the lead role in the latest Eminem video. The busty babe will play Em’s love interest in the video. She was cast after he saw her in “Analyze That.” (The DeNiro flick, not a porn parody.) She has also been seen in episodes of The Sopranos. Gina and Eminem will star together in his video for “Superman” which should hit the airwaves in a matter of weeks. Too see more of Gina than you’re going to get on MTV, fans can pick up Pirate Magazine 72 or 76. Gina will also be featured in number 78 due out in March of 2003.

Turning our attentions back to Extreme we have the interesting fate of Gene Ross and Extreme’s news site www.generossextreme.com The former AVN editor had been running the news and gossip for Extreme for a couple of years, laying it all out there for fans to read and taking no prisoners along the way. All of a sudden the web site was shut down and Gene was nowhere to be found. Rumors flew that he had been fired, while others surfaced saying that he had quit to do mainstream work. While no official word has come from Extreme and Gene has yet to return an email, it seems that he is in fact working for a mainstream site and is finished at Extreme. No replacement for Gene has surfaced so it seems that Extreme is now out of the news/gossip business.

Even as Digital Playground tires to figure out what to do about Tera Patrick, they have inked another new Contract Girl. Jesse Jane joins Devon on the DP roster and brings a very different look than her blonde teammate. Her good looks and amazing figure (34D-23-33 for anyone counting.) are sure to make her quite a smash with fans. It was her personality and professionalism that caught the eye of DP founder Joone. He says, “The first time I laid eyes on JJ, I mistook her for Angelina Jolie. She radiates and intense sex appeal that very few women are capable of.” Digital Playground President, Samantha Lewis is excited, “Jesse is a breath of fresh air. Besides being one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen, she is down to earth and warm with the sweetest disposition. Her ability to articulate is intelligent, genuine and captivating. I look forward to working with her for years to come.” Jesse Jane will be signing at the Adult Expo and I have already lined up an early interview and will have some photos of this very sexy babe soon.

While Digital Playground is thrilled to have one new contract girl, Sin City is very excited by a pair of new girls in their stable. These aren’t just any two girls though, they are a pair of stars, or Starrs if you will. Taylor and Tyler Starr are the newest Sin City Girls and they are special in part because they are twins. Following the success of movies starring the “Sin Twins” (A pair of hot Euro babes who starred in Sin Twins as well as the two “Lock, Cock & Two Smoking Bimbos” features.) these girls just seem to fit in well with the Sin City formula. Company execs are understandably excited. “This is a slam dunk,” offered an enthusiastic Marketing Director, Scott Stein. “From a promotional and marketing angle – this is a dream. The women are absolutely beautiful, intelligent, sexually uninhibited and of course – twins!” In addition to good looks and sexual heat, the Starr twins are said to have great personalities which I hope to explore a bit at the Adult Expo, providing of course I can get in for an interview.

Completing the Extreme triple header is the firing of Thomas Zupko. Actually it is an alleged firing since no one is talking about it. At press time, no word on this or any of the other stories has come from Extreme and Zupko himself is a few weeks late on his promised explanation of the situation. All that we know is that his run at Extreme is over. There has been no word as to whether Zupko intends to seek work with another company or move out of porn entirely. His movies have been entertaining, dark, sometimes brilliant and often downright infuriating, but Zupko flicks were never boring. If he does intend to find work elsewhere, it will be interesting to see what company might allow him to do some of the things he thrives on. Though we started out with a somewhat rocky early exchange, Zupko and I have grown rather friendly over the years and I wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do. One big question remains though, what will become of the feature that I penned and Zupko was slated to direct? Anyone want to shoot a slightly ambitious gang bang video with Aurora Snow? Or better yet, anyone want to finance the movie and let me direct it as well?

Sunset Thomas had a very busy month. She was one of the focal points of an HBO documentary on the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in December. Sunset happily described her life at the brothel and undoubtedly guaranteed herself a full dance card at the Ranch for years to come. In addition to her off camera work, Sunset signed a deal to shore up her on screen career for a while. She has come out of porn retirement to sign a one year deal with VCA Pictures. VCA Spokesperson Mischa Allen says “We are thrilled that Sunset has decided o work with VCA again. She is a true powerhouse in this industry and is hitting a real high point in her career. We are really looking forward to working with her for the next year.” Back in the 1990’s, Sunset starred in some of VCA’s most successful movies, teaming with Michael Ninn for Sex 1 and 2 as well as Latex. Sunset will be signing at the VCA booth which means I might be able to bug them just enough to finally get an interview with Sunset. (And Julie Meadows!)

That is all there is for this busy end of the year. When next we talk, I will have a full report from AVN’s Adult Expo including several new interviews. I will also report on the second annual Rog Reviews Critic’s Choice Awards which will be announced and passed out in Las Vegas. As we finish one year and begin another, let me once again thank you all for reading. Your support and input over the years have been invaluable and you have helped shape this column. Happy New Year to you all my friends. May 2003 be filled with happiness, health and prosperity.
