INTERVIEW: Stefon of New Breed

Tell us a little bit about New Breed.

New Breed is a new "distribution company". One that is committed to delivering the highest quality adult entertainment possible. New Breed was formed because, both myself and my production manager Dimitri Cosmos had been shooting for several companies for many years, but none of these companies would give us any credit, or an opportunity to have our own product. So we both stopped selling our product to these companies, and started putting it out ourselves.

When was the company formed?

In 2003.

What were you doing before you started New Breed?

I was busy running our production company Diversified Production Management. We do contract production work for several big internet sponsors.

How did you make the transition into porn?

I retired from nursing in 2000 after 21 years as an RN. The transition into porn was my first business venture after that. I tried it, and it worked like a charm. I started out as a shooter for Robert Hill Releasing. I was eventually made their production manager where I learned how the business works. From there I started my own production company and things just kind of grew from that point.

What was the first release?

Searching for the Anal Queen, with Lauren Phoenix, Taylor Rain and Michelle B.

What lines do you currently have available?

Searching for the Anal Queen Vol 1 and 2, Directors cut DP's Vol 1 and 2, Teen Angels Slut Wives Vol 1 and 2, 3-Holers, Ripped, Inside Job, Eat my Ass Vol 1 and 2, Wanted Teen Offenders Vol. 1 and 2, Hit it like that, Ass Factory and True Latinas

That's a lot of movies.

We have several, with new ones coming as well.

Tell us a little about the lines.

All our lines are about exactly what the titles say. There are no mindless fuck scenes in our releases, they all have a theme and we do our best to stick with theme. There have been a lot of questions about "what is directors cut" DP's Our thought was to make a title with a minimum of editing, keeping as much footage as we could, maybe we should have called it "Uncut DP's instead.

Who handles the directing for New Breed?

Dimitri Cosmos directs the majority of our lines. He also has significant input on the titles that I direct. Dimitri is my right hand; and a vital part of this company.

What new projects are you working on?

We won't talk about those here, because if I do they will be advertised in next month's AVN by someone else. But trust me we have some really hot titles coming out this year.

Is there a company web site we should check out?

www.ultrahard.tv is our website.

How much does fan input impact what you're trying to do with New Breed?

Not a lot at this point, because we have not received a lot of feedback from fans. However when we do, it will impact what we produce and distribute.

You were nominated for Best New Production company at AVN this year. That had to be very satisfying.

Extremely satisfying, Yes. It also motivates us to do an even better job this year.

Were you a fan of the industry before you got involved?

Not really, no.

Tell us a little bit about your philosophy for doing business?

My philosophy coming in was "we have got to be better than somebody" and it didn't matter who. Whether it was Redlight, or Sandy Bunz, whoever. I knew that we would have to muscle our share of the market, and we were prepared to do exactly that. I also believe that a company should "take care of it's own" meaning it's employees. I do the best that I can to create a family type environment for everyone who works with us hoping that if the company takes care of it's people, they in turn will take care of the company. This way we have a group of people that are committed to doing their best, and not just collecting a check each week. In business everybody has to eat, or someone will be unhappy, and then things go haywire. In the end it costs productivity, and eventually money. So we take good care of our people, and they perform very well. I personally like to hire other people's rejects, because they are usually fighters. I am a fighter and I want other fighters on my team. No quitters allowed here, thus the name "New Breed." There is a lot of backstabbing and blackballing that goes on in this business. Some people deserve it, others don't. These are the people that I am looking for because they have something to prove, just like me and Dimitri did when we started this company.

Would you say that this management style is working?

So far…. Yes. Being nominated for best new production company of 2005 speaks for itself. Not bad at all for a bunch of rejects.

Where are you hoping to take New Breed in the future?

All I really want is to create a company that delivers more then what it advertises day in and day out. One that has a reputation for doing exactly that. I want fans to go to the stores looking to see what we put out this week, and have employees that are motivated to do better today then they did yesterday. If we can achieve these things I believe that the sky is the limit for New Breed.

Thank you for your time and good luck.
