Don't look now my friends, but it's fall again. The air is getting cooler, the World Series is just around the corner and the porn award nomination season is upon us. I've been going through piles of tapes and DVDs to determine the finalists for the Rog Reviews Critic's Choice Awards. In between, I'm planning to take time out on my birthday to see the opening of "Wonderland," a mainstream film staring Val Kilmer as John Holmes.

Aurora Snow had a very busy September, starting on the first of the month when she announced that would be penning a monthly column for www.thetimexxx.com. Her first column covered her entrance into adult videos and future writings will feature her unique perspective on other aspects of the business. Things got even bigger for Aurora during the last week of the month as her directorial debut; "Assploitations" received the royal treatment at a premier party. Members of the adult press were invited to a lunch in the Valley where Aurora signed copies of her new DVD and special posters to mark the release of the movie. "Assploitations" is available on the Mayhem line on VHS or DVD and stars Aurora Snow, Arianna Jolie, Ashley Blue and others in an all-anal adventure.

Evil Angel made a big announcement this month, solidifying their DVD team by adding David Crawford. Crawford was the DVD manager for Wicked Pictures and helped make them one of the best DVD companies in the adult industry. "Whenever David and I would see each other at conventions, we would get into huge conversations about what we like about each other's DVDs and mainstream DVDs. We realized that we had similar ideas and goals for a lot of projects. I told David that I would be crazy to not want him to work along with me at Evil Angel," said Tricia Devereaux. Look for some special projects from Evil Angel and even better DVDs as these two talented individuals collaborate to make the Evil Empire even stronger.

With just one week remaining before the California Recall vote, it appears to be a two-man race between Governor Gray Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Porn Valley has been fairly quiet on this matter as they seem to have no problem with either candidate. With the state in such dire financial trouble, porn seems to be the last thing on the candidates' minds. Many of us have been disappointed to see Larry Flynt turn into a stealth candidate. At least smut's other entry into the race, Mary Carey is out there trying to be seen. She's been angering some in the adult press and isn't even showing up in the polls, but she is still the best looking candidate in the race.

Elegant Angel is shifting gears again. Axel Braun has stepped down as General Manager and will concentrate solely on production work for the company. Braun will shoot not only his "Squirting Adventures of Dr. G," but also take over the long-running oral line "Blowjob Adventures of Dr. Fellatio." Owner Patrick Collins has taken over as GM until December when he will focus his efforts on directing. A week later, Elegant announced that director Thomas Zupko had left the company. With Elegant moving away from features and becoming an all-gonzo company, Zupko is looking for the opportunity to continue making feature films. This move comes just as the early reviews from Zupko's "Opera" are showering the project with praise.

Wicked Pictures may have lost David Crawford, but they did re-sign blonde contract starlet Stormy to another one-year deal. She has already written two projects for Wicked, including "Kink." Looking to expand a bit, Stormy will direct her first feature in the next few months. Stormy is appreciative of the opportunities Wicked is giving her to flex her creative muscles, and thrilled to be returning to the company fold for a second round. Not one to waste words, she said succinctly, "I couldn't pass up a second chance!"

Aurora Snow isn't the only new director for Mayhem. They have signed performer Mr. Pete to shoot movies for them. A hard-working meat slinger since 2000, Pete has worked for just about every company in porn and is a perfect fit for the hard-core Mayhem line. When asked about what will make his movies different from other gonzo offerings, Pete replied, "I just want to shoot filthy, nasty, sweaty sex." Adding Pete to Skeeter Kerkove and Aurora Snow gives Mayhem a trio of directors who all like it nasty.

Keeping up with the current trend, Baby Doll Pictures has inked a contract girl. They nabbed Teanna Kai for a six-picture deal that will have her performing in girl/girl scenes only. "Teanna's always been one of our favorite performers," said Kevin Beechum, owner of Baby Doll Pictures, adding:"She's very popular with the fans and store owners alike." Her first project, "Teanna Kai's Perfect Pink" will feature the beautiful Asian babe with Gina Ryder and other horny babes.

There have been some major shake ups at AVN lately and a new site on the block for people looking to read more about porn. Gene Ross has teamed up with KSEX's Wankus to form www.adultfyi.com. Ross described the partnership as sort of a "48 Hours" thing with Wankus as a fresh, young, Eddie Murphy type (I believe he used the term "wise-cracking sidekick about three times) and Ross playing the "crotchety old fart" role. Ross also pointed out that their unique blend of old and new school adult journalism was going to make adultfyi.com a "fire-breathing entity."

Finally I want to take a few moments to wish a happy birthday and happy anniversary to Layla Jade. On October 1, Layla celebrates both her 23rd birthday and her five year anniversary as a porn performer. She is one of the hardest working women in the industry and never fails to deliver a fantastic performance. Beyond her good looks and awesome sexual energy, Layla is one of the nicest people I've met during my years in the adult business. She's a great person, a good friend and I truly hope that she has many more successful years in this business.

That's about all there is for this month. It's time to get back to my pile of award hopefuls, post-season baseball and my never-ending coverage of the comings and goings in Porn Valley including my review of the John Holmes movie "Wonderland." By the time I write again I'll be a year older, at least two companies will have signed new contract girls and another dozen or so fresh new faces will have come and gone. We may have The Terminator as Governor of California. Perhaps either the Red Sox or Cubs might be champions of the world….nah that can't happen, it just can't.
