Rog Blog: 30 Days of Music Day 19

The Clash: Clash City Rockers. All right, I should have looked ahead before choosing Complete Control as yesterday’s selection. That too comes from the Clash’s self-titled debut album which just happens to be my favorite. My taste in music changed the first time I heard this album. It was fast, furious, angry and completely incomprehensible.

The Clash: Complete Control. OK so no one would listen to a song that played the Clash (Other than Should I Stay, London Calling or Train in Vain) but I would love it. This was always one of my favorite Clash songs. For a real laugh, check out Youtube for “misheard lyrics” for this and other Clash songs.

Eminem & Rihanna: Love the Way You Lie. This song is on the radio and on my TV all the time thanks to the shoes “Damages” promos. I happen to the like the song a lot, but it has never really sounded much like a radio hit.

Celebration: Kool & the Gang. To be honest, I don’t know if I ever loved this song, but this category kicked my ass. My musical tastes are varied and rarely hate something once I’ve loved it. If nothing else, I find a nostalgia that allows me to love the things I used to love about a song. However, this fucking piece shit drive me insane.

Counting Crows: Mr. Jones This one wasn’t that hard at all. To me it’s about dreams, fame, self and spirituality. It is about seeking out our place in the world and always wanting more “When everybody loves me, I will never be lonely.

Avril Lavgine Girlfriend: OK you might expect me to like it if you watch the video. Avril looks pretty sweet in that short skirt. But the song is just so fucking bubble gum with that faux bad girl thing that she keeps trying. I mean how punk are you when you’re song is basically a cheerleader stomp mixed up with lyrics like “She’s like so whatever, you could do so much better.”

Waltz for Eva & Che: Evita. Yeah OK I like musical theater. Make whatever joke you want and then watch the video. Tell me that this song doesn’t get inside your head. I went through a time in an office job when this soundtrack was played every day.

Black Eyed Peas: Don’t Stop the Party. The only question here was which Autotune piece of monkey shit I was going to pick for this category. I already went over my deep loathing of the BEP in an earlier entry so I was hesitant to include a song by them here.

Rog Blog: Westboro Hate Group to Protest Ford Memorial

Yes, the funky freaks from WBC are at it again. This time the bigots that only Satan himself could love are picketing the funeral of former First Lady Betty Ford.

The Police: Invisible Sun. I first heard the Police in Jr. High and fell in love with their music almost instantly. This was at a time when most of my friends were transitioning from Van Halen to Motley Crue or still listening to Rick James and trying to figure out Prince.

Rod Stewart: Sailing. Back in college I had a really cool neighbor. We kind of dated and fooled around and all that. She shared a one bedroom apartment with a roommate and had a mattress on the floor of the living room. I also shared a one bedroom with a roommate so we spent most of our nights at her place on that mattress. Every night we would put on her copy of Rod Stewart’s Greatest Hits.

Madness One Step Beyond: OK, it’s been twenty five years, but I had a thing for dancing to any ska bands that would play anywhere. I’d probably hurt myself now, but this was one of my favorite tunes to dance to. In fact it makes me want to……maybe.
