Rog Podcasts: 2014 AVN Awards Voting: Part Nine

Best Supporting Actor and Actress kick off this edition of the 2014 AVN Awards voting podcast. We look closely at a number of transsexual categories and ask questions about what that audience is looking for. For fun we look at the Clever Title of the Year category.

For the third year in a row, I am going to do a series of podcasts dedicated to the 2014 AVN Awards, the nominees and the voting process. The clips will be here for you to enjoy. Please feel free to comment below or drop me an email with any questions or topics or thoughts send to rog@rogreviews.com or @RogerTPipe on Twitter.

As a voter for the past several AVN Awards, I have been lucky enough to take part in this huge event. The podcasts will cover the process as well as break down several of the categories. They will highlight some of my favorites and discuss some interesting choices and the “can’t miss” titles/performers from the past year.

I hope you enjoy these. As always, your feedback is very welcome. Let me know what you think of the podcasts, the categories, the voting, tell me I am wrong or just tell me how fucking great this whole thing is.

  1. Don Houston says:

I disagree about Daddy’s Girls; the ending was tacked on and pat, the stated “edginess” leaving me wanting to change the channel in a flick about incest, blackmail, and everything but the kitchen sink. Skow had much tighter movies last year that didn’t need to pander to the lowest common denominator, this one failing on several levels.

Star Trek 3: Not the best of the series but fun-ish as a rental.

Niche Genre/Fetish: tough to compare apples and oranges and all the other varied fruits (I agree, too many genres).

Star Showcases: a very strong category with some wonderful choices. I liked all the performers so I could compare on the actual merits of the movies but that is clearly the danger of such a movie if a voter isn’t into a particular performer.

Parody acting: Chanel was the titular star so “best supporting” seems wrong, Dana was decent and may well deserve various “awards” but there were better in this category, this time. I’d caution voters against trying to play Robin Hood with votes (give a higher ranking in one because you felt they were cheated in another category or in the past) since that issue plagues the Oscars and Golden Globes (among other mainstream awards). I liked Anthony in Not South Park XXX but yeah, no clear cut winners.

Tranny titles: Not sure if it’s fair to rate them based largely on technical values. I’m sure the Pronoun Posse (alternately the Pronoun Police) will be up in arms but if pressed, I’d prefer the scenes include a genetic female of stature (Katie St. Ives, or other high profile female) with the feminized TS performer. It’s not a category geared to my tastes any more than hairy women, feet, or other niches but I’d be curious how those who vote in that area approach it because I’ve heard different ways that are completely contradictory. The Evil Angel titles tend to look much better and last much longer than most offerings in the genre. Go Christian! ;)

Clever title could probably be eliminated since studios don’t send them and it rarely comes up in discussion.
