Michael Stefano InterviewMichael Stefano’s Movies
January 2002

Finally, we get to interview Michael Stefano

Is that my name today?

That’s what they tell me.

How are you doing Rog?

I’m great. The question is how are you doing?

I’m doing, you know how it is at these things.

We did a short interview last year when you were at Extreme, but things are different now.

Things have definitely changed.

New name, new company, new lines, catch us up.

Yes, new name, I’m here with West Coast Productions

How different is that?

It’s a much more relaxed environment, no drama. I like it much better. I have a great deal with them. I’m doing two series a month, four total which is more than I did at Extreme. I’m in control of them and I only deal with my own movies. It’s a great situation for me.

What are the lines?

I’ve got “Sticky Side Up” which is guys with multiple girls, “Caution Your Ass is in Danger” which is multiple guys with one chick, “Sex Toys” which is a peeping tom sort of guy and “Butt Faced” which is all anal. I do two a month and alternate months.

You’re directing, starring and everything?

I don’t do my own editing.

But everything else is you?

All of it other than the editing.

Are you still performing in movies for other people?

No, only in my own stuff. If you want to see Stefano fuck, you have to watch my movies. I think I perform pretty well, so why do it for other people and make their shit look better? Why not be like Rocco? If you want to see him fuck, you watch his movies.

These are all gonzo type movies; do you have any plans to do features?

No, just all gonzo, all hard-core.

Last time we talked “Bound by Blood” was just out and you were very proud of that.

That was cool, but it was a lot of work. For me, it’s all about the sex so why take all that time writing a story and doing the long days with people waiting around for hours. The movie is forgotten a month later. It’s just not worth it.

After Extreme, how did you end up at West Coast?

I shopped myself around to a few companies. I did one scene for Jewel De’Nyle. I knew I didn’t want to start swinging my dick around and have people think I was working again. I know how to put together a movie, and that was the route I wanted to take. I talked with Vivid and had an offer from them. I can’t do the condom thing though; it’s just not for me. I talked to James at West Coast because I knew him from years ago. I wasn’t sure if he could do a movie a month with me and figured it was a long shot. He offered me one and said he would think about a second. I said I would be exclusive if I could do two a month and make all of my money here. It has worked out and it’s a beautiful thing. There is no chaos. I don’t have to do other people’s work like I was doing at Extreme. I do my stuff and that’s it.

West Coast has been known as an all-black or interracial company. This is a new direction for them. Was there any concern that their audience might not be ready for your stuff?

He’s trying to expand. If you can do it, why not? When you diversify you increase your fan base and I think it was a very wise choice.

Are you still with Jewel?

We’re actually getting married in March.

She signed a deal with Puritan, you guys didn’t go together as a package.

She helps me in casting my stuff, but it’s better to be at separate companies so we’re not competing with each other. She does her thing, I do mine. It’s better this way.

Is she directing now as well?

Yes, she has her own line for Puritan.

Who is a better director?

There is nothing to direct when you’re fucking. This directing thing is a joke.

You know if I ask her, she is going to say that she’s better.

That’s what she thinks, but that’s all right, we all know better.

Are you up for any awards this year?

No awards this year.  Extreme was banned and all my stuff was for them. It’s too bad because I think it was good stuff, better than most gonzo stuff on the market. Bound by Blood was up for some pre-nominations, but it was pulled. I was screed out of a lot of nominations and probably some awards as well.

Are you upset about that?

Awards don’t mean anything to me. As long as the movie is moving out the door and I’m making money for the company. If they are happy, I’m happy and I don’t need awards to prove that.

Did you leave Extreme with any hard feelings?

I left on good terms, but not long ago they showed their true colors. They have no class. They started saying shit about me and about Jewel. They broke that trust so fuck them. They have no class, let them be classless people.

Is there a web site where people can contact you?

Yes, they can find out about the new stuff at www.westcoastprod.com

Are you working on for yourself?

Soon, yes.

Anything you want to add?

Watch my movies, check out the web site.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot Roger.
