THE PIPELINE: FEBRUARY 2003

Welcome once again my friends, to another month, another year of Valentine’s Day celebration. I hope you’ve all picked out something pretty, sweet or sparkly for the woman in your life. (Or at least bought some nice new gloves for your ‘business’ hand.) Since this is a month for love and romance, I’ve got some good make up and break up stories from the world of porn. We’ve also got the usual comings and goings wit a bit name twist. There are award winners, runaway contract stars and a network hatchet job that has people scratching their heads.

Love blooms in Porn Valley somewhat less often then a herpes sore and more often than not is gone long before one could be treated, so it’s news when a couple commits to something special. Pat Myne, who was with Shelbee Myne for a long time, has hitched his star to another female performer, Britney Foster. The young blonde met Pat on the set, fell in love and the two have been living together for a while. Now that they are getting serious about each other, Pat has decided to hang up his black socks and blue pills to concentrate on directing. It’s had to miss Pat since he’ll still be in a few hundred movies coming out in the next few months, but taking a hottie like Britney really isn’t fair man. Maybe he’ll get back together with Shelbee and she can retire along with him.

As always, the world of porn flocked to Las Vegas early last month for the Adult Entertainment Expo. Industry insiders and fans gathered at the Sands Convention Center to get a good look at what’s new and exciting in the world of smut. I wrote an entire story on the four day event, so I won’t bore you with all of the details, but it was a great time once again. I did over 30 interviews including Chris Alexander, Dion Giarusso, Avy Scott, Calli Cox, Chloe, Julie Meadows, Jewel De’Nyle, Gauge, Aurora Snow, April, Devon and Digital Playground’s new girl Jesse Jane just to name a few.

One of the highlights of the AEE this year was the Adult DVD Talk party. The people from that outstanding web site hosted a party for their regular contributors, reviewers and industry insiders who frequent the forum. As part of the event, they allowed me to hand out my Rog Reviews Critic’s Choice Awards. Bisexual Britni, Tricia Devereaux, Jacklyn Lick, Kimi Lixx and Constance Le helped by handing out the actual trophies to those who were in attendance. Aurora Snow won as Best Female Performer for the second consecutive year. Erik Everhard took home the award for Best Male Performer. Avy Scott was named Best Newbie. Best Director went to John Stagliano who also collected the award for Best Feature (Fashionistas). Whack Attack 14 by Tom Byron got the award for Best All Sex movie while Jules Jordan’s Ass Worship 2 collected the trophy for Best DVD. The final award of the evening was for the Worst Movie of the Year and it went to Lizzy Borden for Fossil Fuckers 2. I want to congratulate all of the winners and the nominees as well as thank the women who helped make the award presentation go so well. I would also like to thank Steph and Drew from Adult DVD Talk (And all of the readers/contributors to that site for their support and kindness.) Lest I forget, I want to also thank Jeff from www.rame.net for being such a great bartender and of course once again thank Den from www.cavr.com for being a gentleman, a role model and the best internet porn critic in history.

AVN also had their annual award show in Las Vegas during the AEE. I end up taking a lot of shots at AVN for their reviews and some of the award they hand out, so this year I think it is important to note that they really did get things right. They named Lexington Steele as the top male in the business for the third time in four years, picked Aurora Snow as the top female and named Jenna Haze best new starlet. In addition to these individual awards, AVN made Evil Angel’s Fashionistas the most decorated film in the history of the awards. (10 total, tying it with Double Feature) Congratulations to all the winners and to AVN for really nailing it this year.

Speaking of Lexington Steele, he didn’t sit back long after winning that third AVN Award. After years of performing and directing for the Anabolic/Diabolic team, Lex has moved over to Red Light District. He will now direct and perform for them, taking over some existing RLD lines and picking up a few of his own. The move is a huge PR coup for RLD who now has a top line name to direct and some A level male talent to improve their on camera appeal. It also presents some interesting questions on both ends. With Lex gone, who will take over the Anabolic/Diabolic interracial lines? How will Lex’s movies look when he’s performing in them? After years of having Mike John and Erik Everhard to shoot and anchor scenes, what will Lex do with the crew he’s got now? It’s going to be interesting to see how things unfold.

Some people just can’t seem to keep their feet out of the mouths. Wicked director/performer Brad Armstrong is apparently just such a person. While enjoying some time away from the floor, Armstrong was approached by an industry veteran who complimented Brad on his feature “Falling From Grace.” His response to the award winning and legendary director (Who also just released a very successful feature) was a curt, “I guess you know now just how hard it is to make a feature.” Apparently Brad forgot that the man complimenting him has been making features for longer than he has been in the business. Hey Brad, next time just ask, I’ll clue you in on who is who or at least give you some salt to help that shoe leather go down a little easier.

ABC’s Primetime did their usual fluff and slam story on the porn industry this month. In addition to the worn out corporate American profits from porn bullshit, the primary focus was on porn performer Belladonna. Dianne Sawyer grilled the well known super slut until she cried tears of shame over her porn career. It didn’t hurt any that Bella’s mom was sitting right there telling Dianne how her daughter was just a normal young Mormon girl before porn got a hold of her. Yeah mom, lots of normal eighteen year olds are covered head to toe in tattoos and head out west looking to fuck on film.

Jill Kelly Productions created quite a stir in Las Vegas when they announced that they had signed a new contract girl. When Tera Patrick showed up and did some photos with the JKP team, rumors flew that they might be about to land the big one. Instead of Tera, JKP added Jezabelle Bond to the team. Not the big fish they were hoping for, but another name to fill the roster.

Things are not all peaches and cream at JKP though. This month they announced that two of their contract girls have been suspended. Star E. Knight has been unreachable for two months. Stylz who was recently married to company owner Bob Friedland, has also been a no show. Though the company says they will hold the girls to their exclusive contracts, not allowing them to work for anyone else, it is unclear if they intend to have the girl back in front of the camera soon. One thing that Friedland made very clear was that this marriage to Shyla is over. He announced that he will seek an annulment, ending their four months of wedded bliss.

Two more love stories to report before I go. The first is a very happy one. Tushy Girl and Anal Princess McKayla Matthews got engaged while in Las Vegas for AEE. No, I am not the lucky guy, though she keeps promising to show me why she is an Anal Princess. Congratulations to McKayla and to the lucky young man. Oh and in case you’re wondering, this won’t change her plans to continue performing in front of the camera so we can all look forward to more great scenes from this awesome lady.

The other romance story is not as happy, and may be just rumor at this point. I hear that a very high profile contract girl may have split from her long time fiancée. The two, who often appear in movies together, have been a couple for a long time and a split would be rather major for both of them. We can all hope it’s not true, unless of course that means that she will be available to do another interview with me, complete with blowjob this time.

Well I guess love doesn’t always work out in porn, but we can all hold out hope for other couples out there. Serenity and Steve Lane have been together for years, Aurora Snow and Jay Ashley seem to make it work, so we can all hope to one day find our own porno romance. Porno or not, I hope you all find someone to love for this Valentine’s Day. Just make sure they are of age, accepting of your love and for those of you who were grinding up on Vanity at the AEE, you might want to check and see if that is a pen in the G string before things get all Crying Game on. That’s all I’ve got for now my friends, see you next month.
