THE PIPELINE: JUNE 2004

Welcome once again my friends to the first Pipeline of the summer. Consider this your swimsuit edition, but I promise you that I will not be darkening your doorway donning the latest two-piece creation. With any luck maybe I can get a few bikini shots of our favorite porn girls for next month. Thought the HIV crisis still captured plenty of headlines in May, the porn world marches on. Studios are shooting again, directors are coming and going and the mainstream media is doing their best to hack at the business from the left while warning of danger on the right.

Last month the HIV situation had claimed two victims, Darren James and Lara Roxx. May brought us two new cases. Miss Arroyo and Jessica Dee have both tested positive since the last column. Both women were on the first generation list after working with James. To date, no one beyond that first-generation list has tested positive and most everyone on the first and second generation lists have been cleared to return to work. Predictably, the industry is in a rush to get things back to normal and seems anxious to move forward without making any changes that might actually prevent outbreaks in the future.

Jay Ashley seemed to be a shoe-in as the next Mayhem director. His girl, Aurora Snow is directing for Mayhem and anchoring the Sin City contract-girl team. Alex Sanders, his long-time friend and former partner in smut-making is also directing for Mayhem. Instead of joining Snow and Sanders, Ashley has been added the Madness Pictures team. Ashley will shoot “Ass Driven” and possibly some other lines for the new company, bringing some hard-core action to the table. Of his style, Ashley said “Today’s appetite for porno is graphic. People aren’t satisfied with the way things were shot five or 10 years ago. I want to take it to the next level without hurting anyone.” The deal will leave Ashley free to perform in other movies so we will continue to see him in front of the camera for Mayhem and other companies.

Michael Moore hit the Cannes Film Festival with his privately funded political hit piece and was a predictably handed top honors. Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” was rushed to release before the November election and was fawned over by the press who fell in love with the partisan politics and put that aspect ahead of film making. Back home, Moore stirred up controversy by faking a flap with Disney over the distribution of his campaign commercial and even mugged for the cameras as he dedicated him movie to the “children of Iraq.” Perhaps they would have appreciated the fifty million dollars that was wasted on this film, but I suppose winning an election for John Kerry means more to Moore than anything good he could actually do. It is fitting that a guy who tries so hard to look like a slovenly man of the people would care more about appearances than actions.

Perhaps as an apology for saddling the Cannes Film Festival with Michael Moore, Digital Playground exported a little beauty. Contract Girl Jesse Jane hit France and created quite a stir. Surrounded by photographers and her many fans, Jesse was right at home, showing so much poise and class that it is difficult to believe she has been in the business for just over a year. Proving that not all of the Americans we sent to Cannes are ugly inside and out, Jesse was thrilled by her success. “This is a dream come true. I’d like to thank Digital Playground for giving me this opportunity and making all my dreams come true. I’m truly the luckiest girl in the world.” To that I add this, anyone who has seen Jesse’s scorching scene in “Jack’s Playground 10” knows that we are the lucky ones.

Guy Capo turned a lot of heads with the three movies he shot for Tom Byron’s Evolution Erotica. Last month he parted ways with Evolution and this month landed with a new company. Rumors swirled as to where Capo would end up and the talented young film maker surprised just about everyone by inking a deal with DVSX. By signing a director who is already known for making thought-provoking features, DVSX seems poised to branch out beyond the all-sex arena where they have established themselves over the past two years. Co-owners Alex Ladd and Javier C are both impressed by Capo and are happy have him on board. Ladd had this to say “His creative genius is certainly unrivaled. His work will definitely bring DVSX to the next level. As a fellow director, I personally feel like I can learn a lot from him.” Javier C added, “Guy Capo is undoubtedly an asset to our company. He is in production right now, and I’m very anxious to see the end result of his labor.” When asked to comment on this move, Capo had this to say. “In my growth process in this industry, I am proud to be associated with DVSX in starting a relationship that will produce bigger and better results with every new release. It was immediately obvious that in the company of Alex and Javier I would be with like-minded people capable of contributing toward MY personal and professional goals, as I hope to contribute to the success and prosperity of the DVSX family. There is no doubt in my mind that I have entered a mutually beneficial scenario.” This interesting combination will certainly be a lot of fun to watch.

For those of you with a taste for the old school porn babes, we have a couple of classic chick sightings. Careena Collins is back in front of the camera, sucking on a huge back cock in Rodney Moore’s “I Survived a Rodney Blast 1.” Ginger Lynn is also still making movies. With her VCA contract over, Ginger will be starring in Jewel De’Nyles “Size Queens.’ Any time we can watch this legendary woman take on a monster cock, it’s a good thing.

Las Vegas Novelties has expanded their team with the signing of the UK Dreamboys. Europe’s premier male dance troupe will bring their act to the States with a product line aimed at both male and female fans. Las Vegas Novelties President and owner, Serenity, comments, “LVNI’s appeal to worldwide audiences, particularly in Europe, has been greatly increasing. The Dreamboys will add to that in great fashion and we look forward to working very closely with them.” The first of The Dreamboys Collection will be available at the upcoming ANME show in July at the Universal Sheraton. Las Vegas Novelties will be located in booth A-9.

Los Angeles drivers have plenty of distractions already. With cell phones, CD players, video screens, screaming kids, pets and fast food, it is a wonder that anyone can get anywhere without crashing. Adding to the distraction, Vivid has leased two billboards that are certain to turn heads. The first features Jenna Jameson, just about all of her. With her nipples just barely covered by her male co-star’s nose, Jenna could cause quite a stir. Oh by the way, the billboard is advertising Jenna’s new Vivid feature “The Masseuse.” On the flipside of the billboard is Vivid’s other megastar Tera Patrick. In a very revealing red dress, Tera is promoting her first Vivid movie “Tera, Tera, Tera.” As if Vivid needed any more attention, these billboards are bound to have people buzzing about the two new movies and the beautiful women who star in them.

Aurora Snow will be returning as a Sin City contract girl for two more years. The exclusive deal will have her directing for Mayhem while fucking and sucking for both Mayhem and SC. “I am excited to continue my relationship with this company,” confided the enthusiastic Snow. “I have always enjoyed the freedom that Sin City has afforded me to create my own visions. Now I want to show them what I am really capable of!” Her next project, Associations 3 starring Ariana Jollee will be shot over Memorial Day weekend and should be on shelves soon. A fan favorite, Aurora will continue to perform and work on her Playboy show as she sharpens her skills behind the camera. Personally I am thrilled to have her back and plan to enjoy everything she does for the next two years and beyond.

As the month came to an end, ABC had their two-cents to say about the HIV crisis. In addition to the ten minutes of new footage, they dragged out the old Dianne Sawyer/Belladonna interview and chopped it up to do a nice rip job on porn and the greedy corporations who profit from it. I guess I missed the memo outlining Ms. Sawyer’s plans to donate her pay for this show to the poor victims who are ‘exploited’ by programs like hers.

As the summer heats up, the porn shows will all hit town. I’ll be heading into the heart of LA to cover the conventions and just might come up with some good interviews along the way. In the meantime I will keep my nose to the grindstone looking for stories. (The California cop/porn scandal for one, look for something on that next month.) You guys just go out, enjoy your summer and keep enjoying your porn. Just remember your sunscreen and your lube, but for goodness sake don’t confuse the two.
